Finally!
It took a while but finally he did it. My grandson Gabriel caught his first unassisted rainbow trout on a dry fly. He did everything from tying on the fly to making a few mends for a proper drift. I watched him from a distance and when he lifted the rod and the fish was on he yelled out " I got him, I got him!!! I hate to say it but my eyes got a little moist. What a felling when it all comes together. After a quick picture and releasing the fish I asked him how he felt after hooking up. He said it was alot more exciting when you can see the fish come up and eat my fly then I thought lets catch another one! That was the only fish he caught on a dry that day. As we headed back to the car he said "can we come back tomorrow grandpa?" I replied " you bet son" and then he turned towards me and gave me a little smile and said "thanks grandpa".

Hi,
That's a great photo to go with a great story! It's often suggested here that you should keep the fly he used, and put it with the picture.

Nice job! Glad to see Gabriel already has enough sense to not hold the rod in his mouth.

Very 8) . Thanks for sharing.

Gabriel seems to have that "Hey, this is nothing!" look, but you can tell he's just about to burst! Grandpa, I KNOW how you must feel!
Thanks for sharing a fantastic moment.

Very cool! I suspect that more than just the trout got hooked in that event.
Congratulations and thanks for sharing.
