Question about dubbing
A few years back during one of his tying videos, A.K.Best spoke of a silk dubbing manufactured by
Kreinik (maker of threads and some of the metallic and textured threads we use in tying).
I was never able to find any in our local flyshops and Kreinik will not deal with the public... only with stores who will commit to very large orders. I would like to know if anyone has ever seen and/or used this silk dubbing, and where is it available? I am in the process of setting up my tying desk at our cabin and need to obtain a supply of dubbings.
thanks for your help,
gerri

That's a suspiciously familiar-looking link...
;)
One of the embroidery shops near me carries it. I bought a little but haven't used it, yet.

I ordered some Kreinik on line a while back. I've used some of it to replace dubbing and make bugger bodies. Neat stuff, I have to do more. I'll try to find the link or as noted above, try the stores that sell it. I just checked, same link as listed above.

Yellow Breech's fly shop did carry it.

I know there is some prejudice against Orvis among some fly anglers in the USA,
but I got mine fro Orvis UK, it is made by Kreniek.

Today I was able to place my order for silk dubbing. The folks at krienikfinally gave me a specific shop to place my order. NO flyshops and nobody in the Wash.,MD., Va., or Pa. area. No mention of any Orvis shops but a needlepoint shop in Roscoe, N.Y.....flyfishing mecca of the east coast. Go figure that one. If anyone needs the resource, Doris Katz, The very gracious proprietor of Needlepoint Gallery can order it FOR YOU.

Some years ago I looked into getting some of this, Steve Thornton, of Virtual Nymph, told me that it "pills up" a lot making it lumpy, and difficult to work with. I'd be interested to hear your take on it.
Cheers,
A.
