Fiberglass Blanks?
Does anyone know where I can find fiberglass blanks? I'm kind of looking for a 7 1/2' 5-weight. 3 piece would be nice. I was going to post this on the "Rod Building" forum, but it says Cane & Graphite.
Thanks in Advance,

Diamondback and Lamiglas both make 8 ft 5wt 3 piece blanks, the 7 ft 6 in lengths are usually a 4 wt. Angler's Workshop can get either for you.

I have built a rod on the Lamiglass blank and it makes a nice rod, especially if you like slow rods. As far as rodbuilding.org, those folks build rods on all types of blanks including fliberglass and they are some of the most knowledgable and friendly people you'll find any where.
Good luck.

Lamiglass also makes or made a 9 piece fiberglass blank that will carry in a shirt pocket. Very nice. Member Jerry won one here in the monthly give-away and built a rod on it.

Rick's Rods of Denver aquired the Philipson Rod Companies trade mark, as well as their existing stocks of glass rod blanks and components.
They can be reached at the following...

Excellent above recommendations notwithstanding, Mark Steffen at [url=http://www.steffenbrothersflyrods.com:8eea5]www.steffenbrothersflyrods.com[/url:8eea5] will make you the best blank going, in 2, 3, or 4 pieces, and for a decent price, especially considering that this is custom-rolled work. Mark used to roll the blanks for Dennis Franke (Glastech Rods), and Dennis was about the most persnickety glass rod maker out there.

Ditto Ricks Rods. See if he has any Phillipson Royal Wand blanks, fantastic stick. He also has some Fenwick blanks I believe. In addition, be sure to get a Phillipson rod tube, they too are high quality. Call him, he will talk with you on the phone, a super nice guy. His wife will usually answer the phone but if you leave a message with her he will call you back. Good luck, Jonezee

I am also in the market for a glass 5 wt. I have been lurking on a board devoted to glass rods and will pass on their collective wisdom (ie opinions). There are many good options in 3 or 4 wt blanks from Lami, Diamondglass, Steffen Bros, and Mcfarland. When it comes to 5 wt the favorites seem to be:
Mcfarland 8 ft 3 piece 5 wt for a slower progressive action. Maybe more of a 4/5 wt (a 5 wt out to 50 ft). Some think it is very special, but it will require a stroke suited to cane not graphite.
Steffen 8 ft 3 piece 5/6. Probably a true 5 wt and more of a general purpose rod. A little faster and stronger, with a nice glass feel, but still not for casting over the horizon. Steffen's 8.5 ft version of this rod is said to be a 6wt.
I have a Franke/Steffen and I have only heard positives about Mcfarland's quality. Both companies offer models not shown on their web sites. These are only hearsay opinions!
