Hello again,
I probably should have asked this along with the rod post. I'd like to get opinions on reels for the 10' 7 weight Steelhead rod that was recommended.
Thanks,

Take a look at the Solitude Reels . . . very nice and made by steelhead types for the sport. Indestructable with a drag system to match what you're fishing.

Thanks. I was about to ask the same question.
I know I am in the minority but a Pflueger Medalist 1495 on eBay will only set you back $25 or $30 and will last generations. I have landed many a steelhead and salmon and stripers on mine.

Im not a steelheader but I fish J Ryall reels in fresh and salt with no problems.I would take a hard look at the Ross reels also.Cimarron's are simple and dependable and Ross has a good track record.
As you may know, Solitude (Harris Reels) was sold. The new owner is making some serious production changes to greatly increase the quality. Mark Vorobik, the new owner, was at the Denver Show with prototypes of the 'new' Solitude reels and they were very impressive. He told me they expect to unveil them about the first of March. By the way, Jack Charlton has been working with Mark on them.

Scientific Anglers system 2. I've tried dozens of reels from Abel,Bauer,Ross you name it I've tried it and in my opinion the SA system 2 is as good as all the high priced models for half the price. Others may not agree but mine has never let me down.
By the way I like the regular arbor not the large arbor design.
Danbo,
I posted a similar question on the board. I asked specifically about the Trion. Please expand your comments about this reel. Use in salt? Durability? Is 150 yds backing adequate on an 8 wt used for great lakes steehead?
