I've been advised to seek plastic beads in craft stores. The ones I find there are either too small or too large.
Do any fly shops handle them for flise in the size 10 to 14 range?

I use two size seed bead for size 16 down an 6/0 for larger nymphs. Places like Hobby Lobby have a rather large selection of sizes and colors. The beads are glass not plastic. Karlie Rae and I did a little swap a few years back and she threw in a reamer to enlarge the opening of smaller beads.
I use 6/0 8/0 and 11/0 glass beads for fly tying. The japanese beads are better than the chinese made ones, the size and shape are more uniform. Prices are not all that bad.
The hook also plays an important part. The bend, wire size, and barb will keep you from using some beads. I find a round bend to allow more bead sizes. I also use the seed glass beads and some 3mm plastic round beads. Bead reamers help to enlarge the hole of the bead. These come in different size and you can even get a motorized reamer. You can even get some 15/0 seed beads for tiny midges. 11/0 seed beads will fit on some size 10 hooks. I have used beads in 6/0, 8/0, 11/0, 15,0 and 3mm and larger. When using larger beads though, you have to do allot of reaming to get them to fit on the hook, or use them on tube flies.

I use primarily miyuki beads. Www.caravanbeads.net
Great colors and combos. Identical to killer caddis beads but a hell of a lot cheaper.
