Thanks - Nighthawk
Hi Eric -
In early July you started a thread about your weight loss and the improvement in your overall health.
My response to your comments was that you would be a role model for a lot of folks by showing that kind of discipline pursuing and being well on your way to achieving a very important goal.
You inspired me with what you had accomplished. With a combination of motivation ( from you more than any one else ), better attention to my eating habits ( which seem to have fallen off track for a couple years now ), and increased activity ( which is certainly easier this time of year ), I've lost about four pounds since I read your post. And I know that I am on track to lose the additional ten to twelve pounds I would like to shed.
So, I just wanted to THANK YOU.
Hope you are continuing to progress at the rate that you and your doctor agree will get you where you want to be when you want to get there.
John
P.S. I would be very surprised if there aren't a few other people who could line up to extend their thanks and more encouragement to you in what you are doing for your good health.

John,
That is outstanding! Keep up the good work! Things are going well for me too. I am about to be removed from my blood pressure medication. The diet and exercise regimen I am on is keeping me off of insulin, taking off the pounds, helping the heart and it isn't as tough as folks think. I still eat the occasional cheeseburger or slice of pizza but it is a treat only and I trade off something else for the day to compensate for the carbohydrates.
The key things here are counting carbohydrates and exercise. You don't have to be Arnold Schwarzenegger either. I hope everyone notes that I stressed carbs over calories. That is not to say you don't have to watch calories. We still have to watch them but not as much as most people think. It is the carbs that our body converts to glucose that put the weight on us and drives our blood sugar. A brisk two mile walk or hike three days a week is normally sufficient exercise to help maintain a healthy body. I added an mp3 player and carry my digital SLR Camera on most of my hikes. Really make it fun and you can see things like this:

I highly recommend this web site to everyone:

This site is a wonderful tool for those of us looking to stay healthy, loose weight and or control our diabetes. Make certain to download their guides and other items.
John, you have come to realize the most important thing about loosing weight and staying healthy. You don't have to stop living or be an athlete to do this. Sensible eating, the proper attire/gear and making exercise fun can do wonders for a body. Good for you, John! I am proud of you!
God Bless
