Which chart do you rely on, or do you use one or different formulas,or use something else to space the eyes on rods you build?
Not asking for specific formula or secret information. Just if you use any.

I normally use the one recommended by the blank manufacturer. The all seem to have preferences. Then tweek it e-v-e-r so slightly! ;)
I agree 100% with Betty. I tape 'em on andtake it out on the lawn and cast a little before I do any tweakin'. Sometimes I add a guide or two. Whatever feels right. There are myriad formulas and charts out there to help you get confused as well. .... In the end, I think I often make more of the issue than I need to.
I have a program that I downloaded from the fly rod building forum. A guy by the name of Carlin created it. There is an online version at http://guidecalculator.cutthroattraders.com/#/
Thanks smile, I need to get some blanks done and this will help a lot!

I would recommend the "Static Guide Placement" method. Probably find it on rodbuilders.org....I think...
Since each blank can have some differences in it...a chart cannot be very accurate for just any blank. This method puts the guides where what ever blank you have needs it to be.
also consider which direction you will be orienting the rod blank, i.e., weak/strong side concave or convex. there is much discussion and opinion on this matter
Will try to research more on that Static Guide Placement method. any other resources I should check out?
