Ist Northern on a Fly
I was targeting bass early this morning....when that action slowed at about 10:30, put on spool
of Teeny T-200 and a streamer.
The pike literally almost swallowed the fly on the drop and although I was using a fairly stout
hand tied leader, I'm still surprised I wasn't bitten off.
Not big...5-6 lbs maybe....but my 1st on a fly rod and a streamer I tied to boot...so special to me.

That's great....and nice pictures too.
Northern is good eatting...I hope you know how to fillet them without bones.

Very good for you, I have yet to hook up with a Northern.

Nice! Was it a hoot on a fly rod? My only northern was last summer, on a medium spinning rod....17" and about a pound....maybe. Skinny little devil. BTW....I only fly fish. Friend wanted me to go out on the lake for Pike with him and his boat....and he provided gear. My lure was a plastic looking fish about 8" long. He didn't look too big compared to the lure.
Was it any battle at all on the fly rod?

Fantastic nam, I'm jealous. Way to go. :D

Very nice! I have yet to take a pike EVER, on ANY kind of tackle. When I get my 1st, it will be on the fly, just don't know when or where that will be. Maybe next year.
Congrats & thanks for sharing!

Nice pictures of your catcher and the catchee. I really like the way you displayed the catcher on the cork of your rod.

Thanks guys!
Your kind comments make it even more special.
Gem...it was down, dirty, and personal on the fly rod.
Duckster...the 1st pike...the 1st fish I've had to fight on the reel in a long. long time...I
just didn't want to kill him. No small feat with the thrashing, typical lockjaw. and the
deep fly. Got the streamer out with no bleeding from the gills or tongue...just my left thumb,
and let him go.

Namekagon;
You let him go ???
