Furled Leader
I have read so much about how nice furled leaders are to cast, I went and bought one. Now I am wondering how to attach it to my flyline? It came with a loop on the line end of the leader and I don't have a loop in my flyline. Do I need to attach a braided loop to the line, or is it possible to nail knot it to the line? Thanks for the help!! Rob

You have a couple of options. You can nail knot a short piece of mono to your fly line nd then place a loop in it if you don't want a braided loop, or you can nail knot the furled leader to your line directly. If you go this route I would dvise placing a drop of super glue on the leader to keep in from unraveling and then cutting off the loop. Makes it easier to tie the nail knot.

I nailknot a 6" mono w/ loop to my fly line. I then loop to loop the leader, be it furled, tapered mono or even straight mono. Then of course the tippet down at the end which is purposely the weak link of the chain (as it were).

I just looped the end of my flyline and whip finished over it with mono. Did that 2 yrs ago and still no problems. The loop is smoother than nail knotting leader btt material then using a perfection loop or whatever.

We have THE furled leader expert right here on this board.
I just opened my "Art of Angling Journal" and beaming from the page in front of me is "our" Kathy Scott.
Way to go Kathy!
