Whakatane, New Zealand
I am thinking of applying for a position at a company there and would like to hear from anyone that has been there or maybe even lives there.
Things like climate, fishing(!), cost of living, schools, health care, etc. I have done some research on the web about these subjects already, but would like to hear about real world experience. This would be a major change for my family so I want as much information as possible.

Whakatane
Hey Brian, Whakatane is a town with a few downsides (low employment rate, gangs) and is known as being a little bit on the rough side. But it is also surrounded by some lovely countryside and beaches. The weather is generaly pretty good and the fishing is nothing short of great! You could quite possibly be out fishing for Yellowfinn tuna or Snapper, Kingfish and other salt water fish in the morning and spend the afternoon fishing some of the best streams in the North Island. The Rotorua lakes area is only an hour away as is Tauranga. The Whakatane river has some good fishing upstream from the town and if you like hunting the Urewera ranges are not far away and offer some fantastic Red dear hunting.
Hope this is of some help.
All the best.
Mike.
