Why? You got the Deschutes and the Day right in your backyard.
Changes in scenery, exploration, adventure! The challenge of catching fish in a different fishery.
Besides, there aren't any fish in the Deschutes or John Day and they are overrated fisheries.
If you are going to the Yakima.....I would recommend hitting the little Naches while your'e in the vicinity. The canyon section is a great place once you get above the campground, Chances are you won't see another fisherman and catch more than enough nice Cutts on dry flies.
luckie88,
Contact the people at the Worley Bugger Fly Co. Steve Worley owns it and he has a staff of great guides and knowledgeable people. They will tell you the truth about how the Yakima is fishing. I use them all the time.

Luckie88,
If you should spot Z in the chatroom, you might want to check with him too or shoot him a PM. He lives in Ellensburg and spends way too many days on the Yakima.

Luckie88,
The Yakima is in summer flows now, dumping irrigation water downstream. So, unless you have a boat or toon it's very difficult to fish. That said, I floated yesterday and the day before with great sucess.
Shortwing stones, caddis and the last of the PMDs were the ticket.
PM me if you would like info on launch and take outs
Z
Z - just in case you run out of water, yellow sallies are just starting on the Yellowstone. *S*

Thanks all for all the info. I was thinking about the stretch around and above Ellensburg. Z I'm not sure if that's what you are referring to? What's with the little Naches? How close? I'm heading out Monday from Portland. Like Z I literally have the Deschutes running through my back yard so I fish it ALOT. But now is my vacation and my girlfriend and I usually head for Montana but her sister passed away and she headed back to Ohio and so Montana is out. Thought I'd try something new and since I'll be by myself and without my better half the Yak seems a little closer. No boat though and not enough $ for a guide.
Thanks
-Jake
Luckie88.....Sorry, I missed your last post and was out running most of the holiday weekend. I would have gotten you more information on the Little Naches. Hope the trip goes well.
