Wrap question
I have recently acquired an old rod, that appears to be in excellent condition, save for one guide. Would it be acceptable to rewrap only that one guide, and then finish all the guides (flex coat)? The original wraps are really intricate, and I don't want to lose the integrity of those wraps.

Wrap
I've done that Betty, on an my 'Bean's LL' cane rod and the reason I did was because other than the one damaged wrap, the rod was otherwise orginal. Now this is just my opinion, but to me, even if an old rod isn't perfect, it has more appeal than if it's totally restored. Some I talk with about this say they prefer old cane that's not been restored too.
I hope others have some opinions on this but for me I see nothing wrong and in fact would prefer the 'minimalist approach' to rod restoration rather than a total restoration....if it's possible.
Cheers,

Many times I only replace/rewrap/refinish the single guide. Using a bit of ochre tint (Lowe's paint department) I very, very lightly "yellow" the new finish ... the idea is to match the condition/color of the existing finish.
Be patient and use good lighting and you will be richly rewarded.
