Maybe you should ask Santa for a woodburning kit next Christmas, and put your name and address on the next net.
Been there, done that. I hate carrying a net, but they are helpful for quickly landing larger fish and holding the fish safely in the water while you get ready for a photo. I add a piece of elastic cord between the two magnetic pieces. The cord is long enough that I can use the net to land a fish, but it keeps me attached to the net so I can't walk away without it.
I am interested to learn how you can lose a net. I have a magnetic release with a slim shock cord from the hook that clasps the top magnet to the vest to the handle of the net. I hang my net "net-up". When I come back to my car the net is on my vest and when I take off the vest I remove the net clip and put the net/magnet/cord in the car. That way I also avoid having the net float away if I drop it in the stream - it is connected to the vest by the cord. I think those magnets often come with a cord. How does this work for you?
Or just learn not to lose your dang net, Steve!
I have lost a net or two, and found a net or two. Quit using them many years ago, but the one I still own has my name on it. Most FF types being honest folks, I figure the odds are good that if I ever leave it lying on a rock somewhere, I might get it returned.
Steven, I feel your pain. I have left several lying around the areas I fish. I am pretty sure I went all the way to Arizona to lose one. I got a new net with a clear silicone bag for Christmas. I figure it was the death knell on me catching any fish I would really need a good net for this year. But I intend to secure it well when fishing and coming going to and from the river.
I have lost a few nets and just for variety I have been known to sit on them too. There is no mistaking that cracking sound as the splinters puncture your waders just for good measure
