Prairieschooner, No one knows for sure, least of all the idiots who send them. Most of us just delete them without opening to avoid hassle. Jim

That's your computer (or the software that powers this site) trying to interpret unicode as ASCII. The original was either in a non-Roman alphabet (like Chinese) or a Roman alphabet with lots of diacritical marks (like Vietnamese.) It's just spam, pure and simple.
Another fly fishing forum which I follow (and which recognizes unicode) gets a lot of spam in Vietnamese. It's always trying to sell cinnamon as health food. Nothing particularly sinister, just useless.
Just delete them. Some people just like to be annoying or crooked.

theres a ton on older bot accounts from before i became admin i try to weed them out the best i can but its rather hard when I am unsure of all the names. send me the names and i'll ban them and block the ip. try to keep up with ip blocking many of these accounts
When I get my hands on him I'm going to beat him with an Ugly Stik? and make him fish a Zebco closed face reel.
