October in central Iowa
A number of factors have contributed to rather poor fishing lately. Granted, I did decent yesterday during lunch while fly-fishing for bluegills. And hopefully today's rain will mean the catfish will get active an hit on flies again.
I fished Sunday, and devoted a brief amount of time in trying to fool some carp with a beadhead woolly bugger. I couldn't see the fish, but had one that held on long enough for me to detect the strike by watching the line movement. Dang these fish are fun fighters!! :D

never hook a carp yet, but the Gills, and a few bass, have been hitting pretty good up here in N.W., IA the last couple of weeks. There's a small group of ponds near home that have been producing fairly well, mainly late afternoon, early evening hours. Mostly with surface hoppers and poppers.
