I mostly use the nail knot for smaller size fish. but what do you use for large fish like salmon/steelhead?
I have been using the backing knot (albright knot) with great results, but i was wondering if i should use something else.

Lot's of knot's will work but I use the Palamar a lot. It is a 100 percent knot, easy and fast to tie on larger flies for freshwater. Ron
ok i phrased it wrong " fly line to leader knot" is what i ment to say
Castwell Knot.
I agree with JC. I fill several fly reels per day with backing and fly line and a section of mono to tie leaders to, and the Castwell knot is the best hands down.
Castwell knot has yet to fail me - salmon, steelhead, bonefish, large trout, bass, carp, and the list goes on.

As my eyes get....more mature...I look for more sophisticated ways (translate...SIMPLE) to do things.
No
The boss saw the knot today and had a hissy fit. I told him he was too old and set in his ways. He is 20 years youngers than me. Twit.
The Castwell Knot has stood up to nearly 60 good fish fights with Atlantic Salmon this year. I trust it.
