New experience for me.
I went fishing at lunch today at the local lake, hoppers were abundant so I tie on a small imitation,(I usually just get small gills out of this lake), make a cast and watch as 3 small gills come up to investigate the fly then scatter as a large shape coasts into the area. This large body cruises up to my fly, studies it awhile, then sucks it in. The next thing I hear is my reel singing as this 20+ inch carp takes my line out to deeper water. Now this is new, I am accustomed to blugills, set the hook, pull in line, unhook then cast again. The time it takes depends on how much line was between me and the fish. This was not going to be that easy. He took line 4 different times. I was starting to get a cramp in my wrist. Got him landed, took a photo with the phone (?) set him free and went back to looking for my bluegill buddys. Now I understand why people hunt these things with a fly rod.

Carp have been my favorite fish on a fly for several years now and I have caught alot of different fish species over my 25+ years of fly fishing the fresh water and salt.

Swen,
Sounds like you had fun! What weight & length rod were you using, & what size tippet?
You ought to try to post the picture too.

Tuber- the rod I was using I refer to as "the wet noodle"-a little shake and it flexes from tip to reel seat, 8' 6-7wt Martin Reel Company about 20 years old with a 7' piece of 6lb mono for a leader. I have a real hard time casting this rod, just can't get the timing down, if -make that when - I knot up the mono I just replace it, cheaper than buying leaders. I can roll cast this thing almost as far as a regular cast.
If I can get the picture off the camera I'll try to post it.
