Hardy rods question
I'm swapping off some gear, and just got offered a Hardy rod in a trade.
I searched the internet and only find a minimal reference to the rod.
So are any of you familiar with the Hardy Ultralight model 4wt. 8' 3pc.?
I'm interested in Approx. manufacture years, value in excellent shape and opinions and any other info you can provide.
Thanks in advance Randy.

Hardy rods
If the rod has a # or more likely a letter code this may help w/ date of manufacture.

Hardy stopped making these in 2001 I believe. They are farily well regarded amongst the river fishing set. Not on par with a Sage SPL/XP or Loomis GLX of similar years though.
They used to sell over in the UK for about ?250-300 as I recall.

Hardy Ultra Lite rod
I have a Hardy Ultra Lite rod in a 7.5' 3 wt. It is a beautiful rod and should be kept for a wall hanging. I found it hard to cast. It is very wimpy. I found about all I could do with it was pile my fly line up maybe 10' in front of my feet.
I am a beginning fly caster and my casting stroke is not good but I can cast OK with my Orvis 5wt most of the time. I asked for advise about it on another fly forum and was told it was a technique problem. I have hung it up as a reminder to myself not to buy on eBay from an overseas seller unless you have tons of money to throw away.
Shipping a rod from Holland is not a great ideal. The shipping cost was over $160 and the customs duty $32 on a rod, reel, line, case and spare spool that cost about $540 on ebay. Yes, I was Dumb Dumb and Dumber and no I don't need another Hardy.
Still it is a pretty rod and the matching Ultra Lite reel may work out on a better more user friendly rod someday.
