I think as long as you get the existing coating clean you should be fine. Use denatured alcohol (available as shellac thinner in a paint store) to clean off any dirt, oil, etc. and then put another coat on.

I believe you also need to skuff the old epoxy before adding a coat. Very fine sandpaper or steel wool or those 3M pads will work

I don't sand the first coat, more work and could cause some damage. If the surface is clean, it should be fine. After all, you don't sand or rough up the blank before putting on the first coat.

It went way better than I thought it was going to. Cleaned the old wraps with shellac thinner and then coated. looks pretty good if i do say myself. thanks again for the replies.. :D
