Deer Hair Comparadun
I have purchased a couple of pieces of deer hair for tying up some comparaduns. I believe the material itself is very good; it's short, thin diameter, and not too many black tips. I have tied up half a dozen #16 sulphurs and they look good enough to fish. My question is this …………… do I need to apply floatant or with the hair float the fly. I'm assuming comparadun hair is also hollow therefore floatant is not necessary. For those who fish this material, what are your thoughts?
Thank you

If you're tying size 16's, the deer hair wing is likely too close to the tips to be very hollow. To be safe, I'd apply floatant to the wing, along with the body. Great pattern, BTW.

Floatant always... and I agree with Chuck on the probability of skinny tips.
