A photo test
This is just a test to see if I can get these photos to load from a site other than photobucket... I rarely use that site.
These pics were taken in spring 2003.
This is a private pond that is used only by people in my family. Since there aren't that many people that use it, there are probably some record size fish in there.

This is Shoal Creek which eventually reaches the Tennessee river. It actually runs along our property line also.

That being said, both of these places look different from the way they are now. That small gravel bar you see in the photo of the creek actually extends over halfway into the creek now.

how bad are the cottonmouths up there?

I've never actually seen any cottonmouths around here, though people tell us that they are here. I think what they are seeing are just water snakes. My Dad grew up in MS swamps so he knows what they look like and he doesn't seem to think there are any around here either. But, then again, there probably are some lurking around.
Hope I don't see any... I've heard they are pretty aggressive...

Nice pics. That's pretty country.

Are your family members open to adopting a foreigner from Ohio with a passion for fly fishing? I can cook pretty good in exchange for a seat in the boat.
Will tie flies and cook dinner for fishing privileges.

Nice photos, good job.
I understand about them looking different now. Maybe the rains we've been getting will help some.

Loretto is only about a hour and a half from me, making me much more adopatable! Another Tennesseean to sign the "Hat"!

I don't know about adopting people....
Due to the floods and drought in the past few years, Shoal creek is constantly changing. The pond level just drops and rises.

Never seen one myself.....West Tn.
Hope it stays that way.

Your creek pics, remind me of one of my local favorites, here in Oregon....... "HumBug Creek". it's a great little rainbow fishery, tucked along Hwy.#26, coming down, out of the coast range mountains. "3Wt. fishing paradise"!
BE careful, who you end up adopting........... Jack would, I'm sure be okay, he's apparently well mannered, has a lot of class and uses two syllable words without hesitation.
Now, Joe V., being at the exact opposite end of that scale, oddly enough, may be your better choice in the long run.
Ones with "lots of class, high intelligence, well mannered and speak well", also, unfortunately, usually demand much better table fair and beverages which lends itself, naturally, to much higher food bills.
Some, have even been known to use actual utensils, when eating, but I've never eaten with Lord Hise, so can't say for sure. Terror Tuber, has mentioned to me, about "Joe using a pointed stick", but I think he meant for "digging grubs out of logs" and not as a table implement. But, again, I'm not sure of this, entirely.
The "better spoken/ well mannered type",also bathe on a somewhat, regular basis so utilities have to also be considered, when making a choice.
Thus, then, my advice for choosing Joe V. over Lord Hise.
MUCH, lower utility bills, for obvious reasons. SPAM and Armor Canned Meat, not to mention, Dinty Moore Stew, are all low budget items and should not increase one's food allotment stipend nearly as much.
Dinner and other family gatherings, are not nearly so interrupted, with long winded and intelligent conversations. It's YOUR choice, of course, just wanted to offer a few things to consider first is all.
