Tool Storage tip
In the spirit of "Paying Forward" in a small way here are a couple of tool storage ideas I haven't seen before.
Do any of you have any tips you don't think anyone else has presented????
One of these is just a knife storage block, picked up at the thrift store, that I drilled holes in the plain side...total cost $1.
The other shows holes I drilled in the edge of my tying desk for tools....turns out to be quite handy....total cost 0.

Put a small plastic bag over that magnet , hooks come off easier.

Drill a hole in that knife block big enough to shove a wine cork in and you'll have a place to stick bodkins in...
Or, fill the hole with part of one of those brass scouring pads and it'll clean the glue off each time you stick it in there.

Thwack, You'll see that I have a black film cannister filled with steel wool for that in the picture of the bench but I like that idea....gets rid of one piece of "clutter".

I have a wood shop so most of the eqipment you show I have at the back of my table on a 3 inch wide piece of wood raised on short legs with 3/8 holes drilled an inch apart for tools. It has dowels for thread, holes on the far left for 35 mm film canisters--one with a hole in the top for steel wool like yours. Holes for head cement, nail polish and supper glue. I wouldn't go for the parts hanging on the front of the table--I like thing out of the way.
With a pedestal vise I also have a pull out drawer for the clippings

ducksterman,
I didn't notice the film canister the first time I looked at the pic. I think my desk is even more cluttered and I'm pretty sure I have an old knife block around somewhere...thanks for the suggestions.

Never mind the storage block, I think the bi-level desktop is a terrific idea!

Herefishy,
I think you are right on....[if I read you right]....what I'm using is a computer desk and that is the pull out computer keyboard shelf...I wouldn't be without it.

I put a strip of that adhesive magnetic stripping along the edge of my desk, to head off errant hooks. Works too except when the cat takes a wander on my desk....currently looking for a flowering, cat-eating plant.
