Contraption
I made this contraption yesterday in order to make my first custom grip. It will go on a 7' 8/9 weight bass popper experimental rod (on a casting blank). The contraption worked great!

This is the grip. I don't want to hear it about the poor quality cork. It won't bother me on this rod.

neat - what is the unit on the right side with the chuck mounted in it called
-
Pretty slick, Greg. Thanks for the idea.

Let us know how the short 8/9wt works out.
I've been thinking that's exactly what I need for saltwater kayak fishing.
I've got my eye on a 7' fiberglass spinning blank made for 6-12# line.
Batson-SPG842
I'm not sure if that blank is heavy enough though

Like the contraption. Like the Grip. Nice Job Greg

that is a potable drill press on the right with the chuck. home depot about 29.00

I like your little contraption. As far as the cork goes what you use is up to you and if you are happy then that is the best cork in the world. I like the grip. Job well done.

Mike,
It is called a "Precision drill guide". It is like a sort of drill press you can mount a high speed drill into. It has a chuck on it and will allow me to modify the contraption as necessary.

Dudley,
The blank is a Batson IP840.

I did the common cents system and it checked out as a moderate to moderate-fast 8 weight. I'll let you know how it works.
