I recently saw a YouTube video of where someone stuck finished flies into the rim of a styrofoam cup for safe keeping. i thought it was a pretty good idea until I tried it after tying size 20-24 midges. It's definitely an improvement over what I do where the flies are hung onto a stretched out coat hanger. Yes, there have been occasions when I have accidentally set the flies "free" when bumping into them. Would appreciate hearing what/how some of you store flies after finishing.
A piece of weathr strippig foam, used to seal doors and windows holds many and is easily replaceable when worn out. I put them into a jar or box after they dry.
I generally do and entire series when I am tying and place the finished flies into a compartment box like this:

If I am tying a pattern that uses a UV coating, I place it in a narrow strip of foam weather stripping, when the group ( usually a dozen flies ) is finished, I take it out in the sunlight for exposure then place them in a compartment.

I've got a few magnetic disks on my vise base. Flies come out of the vise and on to one of the magnets (with the fly head hanging over the edge). Once a tying session is complete, the flies go into a compartment box. Another magnet holds hooks.
Usually a foam block that I picked at Michael's for a couple of bucks serves as the interim stage immediately after the fly comes off the vise. The foam also serves as the place of final assembly if post tying steps are needed (e.g. epoxy, etc.). However, with smaller patterns, a foam block might not hold, so I'll either use a magnetic strip (fridge magnets) or cork.
