Glass or graphite
I am looking at a rod on ebay, a Fenwick, since there has been some discussion about them on another topic that I started, would this be fiberglass?
Fenwick FF857 8 1/2' Fly Rod w/ Original Case & Bag
It is the dark/reddish brown, and looks alot like a couple of other rods that are glass. I can post the ebay auction number, but don't want any of you guys bumping up the price :D

Re: Glass or graphite
zimrx17;
That is a 70's fiberglass, 8 1/2 foot for 7wt. line. You'll love it even more with an 8wt. line.
There's a lot more info here: http://p097.ezboard.com/bfiberglassflyrodders

Thanks very much, just wanted to make sure it was glass, and right now the bid is ninety-nine cents, so stay away! :D

Re: Glass or graphite
Hey zimrx17....
I have an FF806, FF756 and FF706. All three will perform great with 6wt. line, but will soar with 7 or 8wt.
They're smooth and relaxed and will pull in an anvil, can't break 'em.
I don't need a 7 as my 6 will do just fine for schooling stripers, blues, etc. and any LMB I hook.
So, you're safe on eBay.
Email me at jsentell@snip.net, and I'll give you some bidding tips so you don't lose it.
Regards, Jim

Re: Glass or graphite
Dear zimrx17,
I have the same model rod and I really like it with both a WF6 and WF7 line. With a 6 weight line I use it for trout on larger streams and with the 7 weight I use it for float tubing local lakes for bass and panfish.
When you buy it you'll have to find a suitable "period" reel to use with it. I use both a Pflueger 1495 and a Shakespeare - J.W. Young Speedex multiplier on mine. The Speedex is actually lighter than the Pflueger eventhough it is a mulitplier.
Best Wishes,
Avalon :D

I had to chime in and add a pic of a nice bass I caught on a Fenwick 856 recently while on a trip to Florida. This bass inhaled a foam popper at warp speed just around sunset. Put up a hell of a fight on the old glass rod but didn't pop the tippet! Fenwick made a fine glass rod

Re: Glass or graphite
I have a 1979 version of the Fenwick glass rod in a 8'6", 6wt. 4 piece model they called the Voyager. It is my go to rod for smallmouths. I tend to use it more often then the RPL that sits next to it in the closet. It has probably caught more fish than all of my other rods combined.
