Hi
I am new to flyfishing and do not know many good places to fish. I am in need of a good fishing place in northern michigan other than the Au Sable.
Without more information on your location the best advice I can give you is to go to your local bookstore and look for books on Michigan trout streams. There are several available. My favorite is Ten Classic Trout Streams in Michigan by Gerth Hendrickson. Though some of the driving directions are now out of date it will tell you what to expect at various access points on several streams. If you are in the west Michigan/Grand Rapids/Muskegon area send me a P.M. and we can get together to fish and I'll show you a few places.
I am in petoskey. i fish the bear river a lot but rarely catch anything
CDpaul,
Here are 1100 places to fish in Michigan.

Try the Boardman River at the Forks. Try the Little Manistee at Old Grade Campground. Try the Black at Town Corner Campground. Last I heard the Pigeon was still screwed up.
There's a start.
Godspeed and good fishing,
Bob
From Petosky I would try the Boyne and the Jordan. I particularly like the Jordan in the upper reaches.
keep driving north and come up to Ontario. The fishing is great from Sault Ste Marie to Thunder Bay.
thanks for all the rivers. i will be sure to try the jordan. i have fished the boyne with some luck.
Add to that list the Maple up near Pelston. Nice brook trout stream.
Get a hold of Jim Bedford's Fly Angler's Guide to Michigan. You can buy it in Traverse City at Northern Angler or Streamside Orvis, two fly shops up there. They can be a world of help. Also you can get involved in some of the local TU chapters. In Petosky, the local chapter is the Miller-VanWinkle Chapter (http://www.mvwtu.org/). Brian Kozminsky is the president. Give "Koz" a call, he's a good guy, and he can help you find waters to fish in the area.
If all else fails, you are in God's country. Buy an atlas and start exploring.
Have fun!
Are you only interested in trout fishing? I was just up there last month and did great on carp and smallmouth.
i can find any other fish but i have troubles with the trout.
