IMO and I mean IMO.....
Finally some one in government any government talking sense when it comes to how we screwed up with the seals and sea lions to a lesser extent..
About time to take action.
Just watch PETA and Pukepeace I mean Greenpeace get their P**ties in a bunch..... but even they can't deny the mess the seal populations are in on both coasts... or the trouble they cause, fishermen being bitten taking fish off their hooks for catch and release etc....
Ray,
I think it was last year on the Columbia at Bonneville Dam. The salmon run was late and the Sea Lions started chowing down on the sturgeon. The Sea Lions knew approximately when the salmon were supposed to be at the Dam and showed up early. :(

You have not lived till your sitting in a 12ft aluminum boat, bringing in a pink salmon over the side and have a 1200+ lb bull sea lion take it off you. He hit the side of the boat nearly tipping it over. He lunged up and grabbed the fish and was gone In an instant. It happened so fast the young kid in the front of the boat felt the bang but didn't even see the sealion. We were about a mile offshore in a tide rip, I turned the boat and headed for shore.
My friend and I never went out in anything less than a 30 footer after that. The kid in the front of the boat was 13. He is still miffed he didn't see it. I read where they have even followed a fish right into the boat. Scarey stuff. The damage they do to the steelhead and salmon runs is horrendous.
I wonder if any one from the mega corp of PP I of course mean Greenpeace follow up on what the effect of their actions has on the environment?
I any one is a member of GP then plse enlighten me on this.. just what did you accomplish by getting the seal hunt stopped.
Too bad eco activists weren't swimming around then instead of the sturgeon...
The only ones I truly don't like is Green Peace and PETA, and only when they act out of emotion instead of solid facts and truths.... I do know that there are others out there that are as bad or worse but don't come to mind at this time.

i agree with you all the way on that one. and the sad thing is that i have yet to see either of them act out of solid facts and truths rather than just emotion once!
Here is some good news!;http://www.publicaffairs.noaa.gov/re...oaa99r128.html

Am i to understand some of your comments right, in that you all support the killing of the sealions in an effort to protect salmon and steelhead?
jeff,
I think Salmon & Steelhead should be put on the Endangered List for 5 yrs, build the runs back (Eliminate Hatchery & Farmed Salmon), tear down the Dams and start over. Killing a few Sea Lions isn't going to help the Salmon runs, it will help the Fishermen who have to put up with the Sea Lions. Public opinion is driving this Proposal and it's a short term idea.
That's my opinion.
