    Jim -

I've posted seven or more continuing threads covering about 250 fishing and hiking outings on the Fishing Reports Forum over the past two years.

If you scroll back through the Fishing Reports page by page you will find titles like: "Montana Moments", "Some Time in the Mountains", "'09 Elkhorn Challenge", "South Fork of the Snake", "Henry's Fork", "SE Idaho Streams", "The Central Mountains - Idaho", and a couple more. You have to go back to early January '09 to find the last four threads mentioned. I think there are a few more titles for single outing reports.

If you like reading about fishing in the Intermountain West ..... Real life stuff for free.

  3. Hi John,

Thanks for this message. I will certainly tie up some of these and give 'em a try this Spring. I have read about the streams you fish in magazines and books, but I never had the oppurtunity to get out west. Perhaps when my kids are out of college in the next few years I can talk my wife into it.

i have fished in Maine (once), Vermont (once), NY (twice), VA's Shenandoah national park (many times) and PA (frequently) in search of brookies. Incredibly, my 2 largest brookies (18" female and 19" hook-jawed, hump-backed male) I caught (and released) in the same pool on a small creek within a couple of miles of home, just last October.
I really enjoy hiking into the scenic and remote streams, because even if the fishing is not good, at least I've been hiking..

As a follow up to your thread on pine squirrel - the brookies in one Central Idaho river I fished a lot when I lived down there really liked the PSC. You can also tie it with "micro" pine squirrel zonkers on something like a size 12 or 10 nymph hook ( which I did to fish a small spring creek in Idaho ). Bet your small stream wild brookies would go ballistic chasing one of those streamers !!

P.S. Thanks for the compliment on the pix. The first one, with the four PSCs, nippers and 2X tippet is all I took with me for fishing the South Fork and the Henry's Fork a number of times. Almost always came back with one wet PSC and three dry ones - after catching bunchs of browns with them.

The biggest fish I've ever had on, a brown in the mid to upper 20 inches, took a PSC on the Henry's Fork about the time I took those pix. He took me to my backing, and broke off a fresh 2X 10# leader when I tried to hold him. 'Nuff said ??
