  1. It's been a while but I've fished the Potomac a few times up at Point of Rocks and Harper's Ferry for smallmouth. Caught some, nothing big, all on poppers/topwater. Nice place to wet wade when it gets hot.
  2. Scott,
Have you ever fly fished the Potomac and where are some other areas to fly fish in this area? I would love to fish the Potomac, but not sure what area to fish it. I went to Morgan run off of Interstate 70 two Sundays ago and had three strikes and missed them all. Great area with lots of holding areas. I went to BHC last Sunday and fished the canyon area and had two strikes and missed them as well. Gotta get better at hooking them. I am going back to BHC this weekend and fishing the canyon area again, this time closer to the little bridge that goes across Rt 77.
  3. Yea, that is the problem. I am using a 9' I do need to get a shorter rod for BHC and streams like it. There are some really good pools at BHC, but I cannot drop the fly in them due to brush being behind me. I will let you know how Morgan run fishes tomorrow.
  4. I don't fish any one spot; like to mix it up for a little variety. Congrats on catching fish playing match the hatch - I usually stick with stuff like Trude variations that I can see easier in the pocket water or, if they're picky something like a #14 CDC & Elk that is pretty visible as well; the browns like them both. You say you're tangling - what length rod are you using? I use a 7' 4wt and don't have too many issues, as long as I check behind me before I cast.

    Regards,
    Scott
  5. I fished Beaver Creek a couple of winters ago without much luck; never have fished Morgan Run. I was up at BHC last Friday and did pretty well on attractor dries; stream was a little off color from previous night's rain but fish were still looking up. Saw a few mayflies and lots of yellow/lime sallies.

    Regards,
    Scott
