A new season starts

Last weekend marked the start of another Trout Season, excited to be out for the first time in several months, got the call to go Sunday and chase little kern golden trout at a place I've been wanting to go to for a while. Woke up at 430 and headed out. Quick 3 hour drive and I was at the meeting point. We continue up the road and all we could see was white, snow. The snow pack was heavy this year which is good considering the drought conditions of a year ago. We figured the turn off was before the top and before the road was closed. We continued up and got to the turn off. As we turned off, no more that 500 yds white, nothing but white from side to side. The entrance had not been cleared and our destination lay 6 miles away on a winding semi-paved road that at least appeared to be buried. I have a 4 wheel drive but the thought of being on snow, ice and nothing to stop a sliding vehicle except the bottom of the canyon was not worth it. The place will have to wait at least a few more weeks.

We looked at the map and drove to roads end...a short mile to mile and half hike and we had a new destination. It was nice to finally get out and we found a lot of eager, willingly participants. (pic to follow). The water was a cool 40 degrees and the banks had snow which I thought was pretty cool.

Saw several big fish missed a couple managed to bring a few smaller one to hand....but the day was growing long and I had a the nice return drive ahead. Not what we had necessarily planned but it was nice to get out can't wait for my next trip .
